Peak Particle Velocity Meter Model VM-01Overview and features
- This instrument measures one of the three components of ground particle velocity, normally vertical and displays the peak reading on the scale of a moving coil meter. This reading is held for several minutes after the event before gradually fading away.
- Range settings of x1 and x10 are provided and as the stored signal is unaffected by the operation of the range switch, the setting can be changed after the event if necessary to obtain a more accurate reading.
- The VM-01 is supplied in a protective carrying case together with a sensor, metal block and spike anchoring attachments.
Operation
- If ground particle velocity, the reading is usually where necessary doubled to allow for the other two components. This adjusted value is used to assess the likelihood of structural damage occurring.
- The unit is powered by a replaceable PP3 9V Alkaline battery and is capable of 60 hours continuous use. The state of the battery can be read on the meter by operating the battery test switch.

- Meter should only be opened to replace PP3 9V Alkaline battery
